I have most units to play with I've just not been very good at navigating the best damage team...

I Imagine Advant and Advani are good leaders for this but can anyone give any advice as far as other units to pair them with to completely maximize damage output... Also some sphere suggestions would be super helpful...

    Thanks so much

This varies depending on the month.
Avant/Nyami are the top leaders on non crit resistant content, with Lucius/Avani/Randolf and future Sirius/Eze taking the crit resitant slot lead.

Avant offer BB damage, and HP -> ATK on his SBB, however Nyami offers an innate crit rate on her LS which means that with proper sphereing, you can bypass the need for a crit buffer all together.
Avant, Farzen, Zeruiah, Rize, Rize, Avant is one of the top teams due to nuking damage at the moment, but I'm excited for Nyami, Eze, Zeru, Rize, Rize, Nyami OR Nyami, Sirius/Atro, Eze, Duure, Zeruiah, Nyami

It depends. You have to consider what you are fighting, and what kind of play style you're using. Avant and Avani represent three possible kinds of squad build, for slightly different purposes.

First, if you're rocking an Avant or Nyami lead - this is a crit squad, and it's best for doing high damage to enemies that do NOT resist crit. Avant, Nyami and other crit leads are much less effective, for obvious reasons, if raid, trial and GGC bosses are simply immune to their bonus crit damage, or are harder to crit against. A lot of newer bosses are like that. But Avant, Nyami leads remain your best choice for Frontier Hunter, Frontier Gate, and so on.

A crit squad uses a second crit rate, crit dmg SBB buffer, as the two best crit leads - Avant and Nyami - only have their own crit rate buff on BB, not SBB. The squad also brings spark damage buff, ideally element add, possibly atk stat buff. Maybe BB atk if Avant isn't lead or friend. Maybe spark crits, whatever. But crit rate, spark, are the chief priorities, elements the next. You also want a nuke unit, a big heavy hitter, and/or units who refill their own BB gauges. You may need to make some concession to BB gauge management as your two leads (own and friend) do not generate BB gauge on lead skill, if using fire sword dude or catgirl.

Second, if you're rocking an Avani lead... there's actually two types of squad this supports, a spark dmg squad that is spamming SBBs, and a normal hit squad that is attacking with boosted hit count normals. Let's look at the SBB spam setup first. Here, a spark damage lead is used, most likely because spark is less commonly resisted than crit. Nyami and Avant are technically spark dmg leads as well, so the real point here is to take a spark lead who does NOT also have crit dmg. Because resistance. This is most common as a raid thing, but a damage lead in Trial/GGC may also be a spark one.

Avani is not actually the best choice for a spark SBB setup. She has no HP on lead skill, and a lot of the times, for raid and such, you do need the extra HP. Sure, you can bring a HP friend, but the next player in your raid room may be chilling out with two HP leads, and wondering why that @everspell person keeps dying. Avani also has normal hit increase on lead, which is doing exactly jack squat if you're spamming SBBs and not normals. With that said, Avani lead does have BB gauge fill on spark - this is a good BB fill mechanic to look out for, and many people prefer spark teams to crit squads even in places where crit works, just for the superior BB fill.

Alternatively, a spark squad could use a lead with no spark dmg buff on lead skill...but instead a big. BB atk bonus or something like that, Haile is a good example of this.

Squad wise, you set it up like a crit squad in terms of the buffs you want. However, you also want to watch out for hit counts and animation, you want your squad to spark more. You likely also need to bring mitigation, healing, status cure, maybe def buff and status inflict if this is being used in raids or boss fights. Basic survival stuff.

Normal hit builds involve stacking lead skills, buffs, spheres, to boost normal hit count and consequently normal damage. Why do this? Some rare enemies may resist spark and crit, both. They may even resist extra element damage, BB mod boosts. Normals aren't resisted. You may also need to conserve BB/SBB gauges in fights with poor gauge fill, if boss resists bc drop. Finally, normals are single target, you may need to focus fire on one target on screen for some fights, while avoiding doing too much damage to other enemies. Avani is actually also a normal hit build lead. I won't go into detail on this squad type, this post is too damn long already. Ask if you need clarification, or google.

Some sample builds. I have intentionally widely varied the units in use.

    CRIT: (FH/FG)
    :fire:Avant (Lead) + :light:Charla, :earth:Zeruiah, :fire:Gildorf, :thunder:Rize (or Dure) + FRIEND: Avant/Nyami

    SPARK: (BB spam, Raid)
    :water:Haile (Lead) + :thunder:Lafiel, :water:Farzen (or Zedus), :light:Aurelia, :thunder:Paris
    :dark:Chrome (Lead) + :earth:Dolk (or Mikael), :fire:Griff, :light:Allanon, :thunder:Paris
    :light:Sirius (Lead) + :thunder:Mikael (or Dolk), :water:Farzen (or Zedus), :light:Allanon, :thunder:Reud

    NORMAL HIT:
    :earth:Avani (Lead) + :light:Sirius, :light:Allanon, :dark:Hadaron, :thunder:Mikael + FRIEND: Randolph

This is the current state of things, when Sirius hits on monday, anyway.

Things will change when Dream/Omni evolutions arrive, with Omni Eze becoming the best lead for spark setups, Omni Vargas becoming a decent contender as well, and Omni Atro lead being used by people who want to BB spam all day. Optimum setups at that point will be mono builds, a sample Eze squad is below.

    OMNI EZE: (future evo)
    :thunder:Eze (Lead) + :thunder:Lafiel, :thunder:Orna/Eldora, :thunder:Paris, :thunder:Sargavel + FRIEND: Eze
