Hey there, it's been quite awhile since I've played the game. The last time I played Brave Frontier was when Karna Masta was relatively new. With all these new units, I'm a bit lost as to what units I should get, and if my team is up to date.

Right now, my main squad consists of: Ark, Felice, Sirius, Clara, and Krantz. What's wrong and right about this squad? What could be done with it?

Basically, please tell me how to set up my squads; I'd appreciate it very much :)
( Having the new meta explained to me would be great too! )

    Azurai Avant Rengaku
    Azami Vern Lumis ( a 5* Tridon )
Sirius Lara Allanon Ark Krantz Amadream
    Felice Avani
Shion Semira Mifune Zero Mizerka Nyami

    1. Ark: Ark LS is a 20% dmg reduction after X happens effect - this is desirable for hard content, but you can only have only one LS 20% dmg reduction effect at once. This means Ark lead cannot use any friend with a similar 20% dmg reduction effect (even if the activation condition is different). The problem here is that the best friend to use for maximum durability is Alza Masta who is himself a 20% dmg reduction lead. This means for max durability (among your units) you would need an Azurai lead rather than Ark (as Azurai is the only universal 10-15% dmg reduction stacking lead available here... well, technically the 5* Tridon but fuck that version of Tridon).

    2. Felice, Sirius: Felice is obsolete stat-wise; no self-HP increase SP, squishy by modern standards, SP enhancements in general suck by modern standards. Sirius is okay, but not very remarkable these days. Felice + Sirius clash for sparks fill BB gauge (overlap, one copy of the buff is completely wasted). Ark + Sirius clash for atk buff.

    3. "Clara": There is no Clara, this is a typo. I assume 'Clara' in your list is Ciara or Cleria. Neither is mentioned in your brief unit list so I have no idea WTF you have here. If this is Ciara, Ciara is considered literally the worst six element add unit in the game because of her buff timing at Omni, in essence due to her slow animation (she teleports then attacks), if squad is using a low-delay auto, she likely applies buffs only after the entire rest of squad has calculated damage for that turn. Ciara is overlapping with Ark and Sirius for atk buff. Effectively buffs apply from second turn of fight onwards, not first turn. If this is Cleria, then there is a third set of overlapping buffs with Felice + Sirius.

    4. Missing Key Buffs: Squad has no heal over three turns (HoT) if Ciara used, it does if Cleria is used however. Squad has limited stat stack (atk/def/rec relative to other stat). Krantz can be SP'd for def relative to rec but is a very very poor carrier of this buff (weak version). Squad has no crit/ele/debuff null. Squad has no ailment inflict (necessary versus certain bosses). Squad has no KO resistance UBB (admittedly you don't own anyone who does this). Squad has no 50% OD refill three turn mitigation iUBB (you own two units who do this). Squad has no spark dmg buff unless Ark or Felice SP'd for it, and Ark and Felice are horrible units to SP for spark dmg (similar to Krantz, their versions suck ass).
For hard content - 2x dmg reduction/mitigation lead skills (own and lead). Required buffs: Spark dmg buff, sparks fill BB gauge, BB fill when squad is damaged, heal over three turns, status cleanse/removal, 50% dmg reduction/mitigation, stat buffs, second set of stacking stat buffs relative to other stat. Optional buffs/effects (may be required depending on content): ailment inflict, OD fill, crit null, other forms of healing, 50% KO resistance UBB, rez UBB, 50% OD refill + mitigation UBB (iUBB), chance of extra turn, any useful ES like extra stats.

For quest/levelling/grinding - account XP increase lead skill, plus bare minimum to survive/do dmg (i.e. most but not all of the required buff list from hard content paragraph above).

For regular raid - similar to hard content requirements though less stringent, can use DPS lead instead of mitigation. DO NOT bring crit buffs for raid farming (unless you understand why it is or isn't an issue, vs. which bosses).

For Guild Raid - use mono-element squad, hybrid of hard content and FH/crit building - exactly how much it hybridises one way or another depends on your guild and your raid strat. Cannot easily generalise.

For FH/Crit - Frontier Hunter seasons are now elemental, ideally use mono or element tailored squad. If speaking generally, use crit dmg lead (ideally with other dmg effects) and dmg LS friend, bring crit buffs, spark dmg buff, element add, optionally element dmg boost (EWS), bring 2x identical nukers (or multiples of 2).

For Frontier Rift, Grand Quest - no one size fits all recommendation, build varies based on individual content

For arena/colo - use ABP/CBP boost lead skill, use KO resistance units, use ailment inflict.

    QUEST/LEVELLING SQUAD
    :dark:Shion (Lead) + :light:Krantz, :dark:Zero, :light:Allanon (or Lumis), :fire:Azurai

    - SP Zero for sparks fill BB gauge

    REGULAR RAID SQUAD (not GR)
    :dark:Zero (Lead) + :light:Krantz, :dark:Shion, :light:Allanon (or Lumis), (last slot depends)
    - ideally some ailment inflict for RC6 bosses, but best ailment Omni here is Amadream, but Amadream is a crit unit and fuck crit in raids
    - Azami can do ailment role but is of course inferior to Amadream
    - can use Ark lead here but this means no room for ailment inflict unit, meaning must use friend for that if necessary

    TRIAL/GGC/HARD CONTENT/BOSS FIGHT SQUAD
    :fire:Azurai (Lead) + :dark:Zero, :light:Krantz, :light:Allanon, (last slot depends)
    - Amadream in last slot if need ailments
    - Rengaku or Shion in last slot if want OD fill to facilitate spamming of Shion/Allanon UBB (this is possible as Shion/Allanon UBB fills back 50% OD gauge on use).

    FRONTIER HUNTER/CRIT
    :dark:Nyami, :fire:Avant (Nyami/Avant Lead) + :fire:Azurai, :dark:Zero, :dark:Shion
    - not clear here how many of each units you have, if you have 2x Nyami, 2x Avant, or 2x Azurai, adjust build accordingly to bring both

    ARENA/COLO
    :light:Amadream (Lead) + :fire:Azurai, (and other units)
    - no other arena specialist Omni units present here, use whatever
    - SP for KO resistance

Thank you for the very informative post Acyl! I appreciate the time you've spent.

Sorry, it seems I did mistype; I meant Lara. I have another question as well, would it be better to substitute Allanon with Ark? I SP'd him with elemental negation and buffs when my choices were more limited.

As for duplicate units, I only have duplicates of Lara.

Ark these days is only really good for his lead skill, or if you really have no alternative for other stuff he can be SP'd for.

Allanon is specifically used in suggested builds because Allanon is Allanon - the Omni Allanon is extremely meta due to being one of the very few units with a spammable UBB. Basically Allanon (and Shion) have a mitigation UBB that also instantly refunds 50% of the OD bar, making it easy to chain the UBBs, particularly if you have units in squad that do percentage OD fill on BB/SBB... which Allanon and Shion also themselves do.

Ark instead of Allanon doesn't work because the suggested squads use Allanon for heal over three turns buff (which Ark doesn't do), and Ark doesn't have the various OD stuff described above.

Strictly you don't need both Shion and Allanon in the same build, they overlap on the UBB and they both clash on element add, but... if using an Allanon or Shion UBB, it's beneficial to bring a second (or third, fourth, etc) unit for OD fill on BB/SBB, so you can have multiple OD fills to supplement - by which I mean, yes, the UBB gives you half your OD gauge back, but to use the UBB again before it runs out you still need to build half the OD gauge again, so you want units in squad that do OD fill. You don't have many percentage fill OD units, at a glance I'm only seeing Allanon, Shion and Rengaku... which implies, yes, you may want Allanon/Shion/Rengaku in a squad if space permits.
